Ottawa has a reputation for being primarily a “government city,” which does not necessarily invoke an image of fashionable citizens. Those people with a strong interest in fashion need to come together to engage those who are inactive in Ottawa’s fashion community. Ottawa currently hosts many annual events: Winterlude, the Canadian Tulip Festival , Canada Day activities , Blues Festival, and many other local festivities however, only one fashion‐related event is recognized by the media – the Richard Robinson Grand Premiere.
Runway for Hope Ottawa is starting a new movement by connecting those working in the fashion industry with their supporters to hold fashion‐based events to engage Ottawa citizens in local fashion. Runway for Hope Ottawa also promotes local musicians by providing them with an opportunity to perform on stage. Currently, Runway for Hope Ottawa hosts an annual charity fashion event. In the future, the organization plans to increase the number of events held throughout the year.
Runway for Hope Ottawa is a non‐profit organization. Our main goal is to promote local talent in
Ottawa’s fashion industry while raising money for local organizations.
Runway for Hope Ottawa aims to increase the amount of public recognition for local fashion designers
and local clothing. A future goal is to eventually have Ottawa recognized for its local fashion talent and
to increase tourism to the nation’s capital for this very reason. Furthermore, the organization would
like to see Ottawa’s fashion designers gain nation‐wide recognition by eventually broadening the scope
and providing them with exposure in fashion events outside of Ottawa. With increasing support for
Runway for Hope Ottawa, Canada’s capital has the potential to gain as much recognition as Montreal
and Toronto’s fashion industry.
The name of the event is called Runway for Hope Ottawa . It is an annual charity event where people from the media, fashion industry, fashion enthusiasts, business owners, and charity supporters come to see the stunning collections of clothing presented by local fashion designers and local clothing stores.

For the past two years, Runway for Hope Ottawa events have showcased 10 to 12 local fashion designers with 8 to 10 collections each. The show also had three different performances from local musicians. Both events were successful with over 300 people in attendance at the event (bringing the event just short of capacity). In 2013, the Runway for Hope Ottawa event was sponsored by theEmbassy of Angola.

The next Runway for Hope Ottawa event is scheduled for September 27, 2015.
